Dr. Bruce Farcau spoke at the Feburary 21, 2009 luncheon. Dr. Farcau has served in both the US Army and US Foreign Service. Dr. Facau is a guest lectured at the University of Central Florida and a published author.He spoke on the importance of "Diplomacy in the United Nations."


Toni Van Pelt spoke at the March 21, 2009 luncheon. Toni Van Pelt is the director of the Center for Inquiry-Office of Public Policy centered in Washington DC and the Center for Inquiry Explorers Club. Her work as a lobbyist centers on promoting and advancing science and secularism. She asks Congressional Members to base law and policy on empirical evidence were possible, and the scientific method as opposed to faith. She also champions separation of church and state and social justice issues including women's equality and lesbian and gay rights. She interacts closely with her colleagues assigned to the United Nations on international issues of concern including The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.


For the April luncheon, the United Nations Association Greater Orlando Chapter hosted a Hunger Banquet. Collecting 583 pounds of canned foods for charity and bringing the issue of poverty and hunger into light. In addition to this, we learned that every 5 seconds, one child dies from hunger; faced with these facts we wanted to make a difference in these children's lives, because to save ONE child's life makes each person who contributed a HERO in that child's world. So, please... be a HERO!
